“In the Beginning God”

In reflecting upon our most recent presidential election, what was obvious to me, was that it revealed a lot about the American people. Particularly, a whole stratum of citizens who have been on the political sidelines for thirty-plus years. Finally, they were awakened at the eleventh-hour and fifty-ninth minute, to turn-back the tide of our culture, toward semi-reality from being on the precipice of insanity. This phenomenon confirmed to me that the American people still have a pulse and somewhat of a moral compass.

And, believe it or not, this all reminds me of the 2004 presidential election, when the American people rejected the immoral, godless, worldview being pushed upon them by John Kerry’s campaign. In fact, I will never forget, that soon after that election, when President Bush’s victory was confirmed, two NYTimes editorialists said that those who voted for President Bush, were driven by “Fundamentalist zeal, a rage at secularity, religious intolerance, and a fear of and hatred for modernity.” One of those two New York Times editorialists went even further by insinuating that those who voted for President Bush were, “intellectually-inept people who oppose abortion, suffocate stem-cell research, and support a constitutional amendment against gay marriage ... none other than a devoted flock of ‘evangelicals’ or ‘values voters’, as they call themselves.” But the American people still refused to listen to the biased media. Amazingly, they rejected such ranting against President Bush in regard to the war in Iraq, the economy, and moral values, and just voted their conscience. The result? The second miraculous election victory for George W. Bush in four years. And these were unmistakable answers to our prayers! But, instead of “walking humbly before our God” (Micah 6:8), evangelicals shortly thereafter grew lax over the next eight years and both the 2008 and 2012 presidential election victories went to Barack Obama. Sadly, we all know too well the godless decline and immoral disasters those years brought us. But now, we are again in a similar scenario with the Trump presidency. Will we be able to build upon the disappearing capital which still remains from our puritan forefathers? … I believe this will only happen if the church in America, repents and becomes the church it’s supposed to be, by being both salt and light to our decaying and dark nation (Matt 5:13-16). Dear reader, now is the time to stand and pray for our nation like never before (2 Chronicles 7:14; 1 Timothy 2:1-8)! Brethren, we desperately need a spiritual awakening on a national level! Just follow the words by the other New York Times editorialist (in 2004) and you will be reminded why, “we live in an unenlightened nation that believes more in the virgin birth than evolution.” May God move the church back to a proper view of its origins, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Then, we will be able to proclaim as Paul, “The God who made the world and everything in it ... commands all people everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:24,30). And last, may we all return to the type of thinking and living, that can agree with the following words of C.S. Lewis, “No philosophical theory which I have yet come across is a radical improvement on the words of the book of Genesis, that ‘In the beginning God made heaven and earth’”. In conclusion, let us draw near to God, first, by taking heed to our heart preparation today, for encountering the living God tomorrow, in our public Worship service, both through our praises and prayers to Him, with God’s people; and secondly, through our attending to the reading and preaching of His Holy, inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word! Soli Deo Gloria! Happy Reformation Year 500!!
